The Blessed Hope — Christ’s Return

Jesus is coming again! This is the blessed hope of every believer — a promise that fills us with joy and keeps us ready.

He is coming

“Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.” (Titus 2:13) Jesus said, “I will come again and receive you to Myself.” (John 14:3)

The resurrection & catching away

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout… and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive… shall be caught up… to meet the Lord in the air.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17)

Be ready

“Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Matthew 24:44) Live holy, watch, and be faithful.

Work through it

The promise, the account, then the warning

Titus 2:13, 1 Thessalonians 4:16, and John 14:3 are the study references. Read John 14 from verse 1, where the promise is given to troubled disciples; it is plainly a comfort before it is a doctrine. Then read 1 Thessalonians 4 from verse 13 for the whole account, including why Paul wrote it — to a church grieving believers who had died. Titus 2:13 sits inside a sentence about how grace teaches us to live now, so read from verse 11 and you will find the hope and the holiness in the same breath. Matthew 24:44, quoted in the third section, belongs to a long chapter of warnings; read the chapter before drawing conclusions from the one line.
