Teaching Summer Division

What it is

Step-by-step written division on summer-framed pages keeps the grade's division skills sharp across the break. Worked answer keys close out the set. In Grade 5: long division with two-digit divisors into four-digit numbers; about four in ten problems leave a remainder.

When a child is ready

Ready once long division by one digit is accurate.

If they struggle

Round the divisor to estimate each digit of the answer. If the product is too big to subtract, the digit was one too high.
