Teaching Winter Division

What it is

Written division at each grade's level on frost-and-evergreen pages, remainders appearing only where the grade is ready for them. Worked keys for every sheet close the set. In Grade 4: long division with one-digit divisors into three-digit numbers; about four in ten problems leave a remainder.

When a child is ready

Ready once division facts are quick and the child multiplies and subtracts on paper.

If they struggle

Say the four steps aloud each time: divide, multiply, subtract, bring down. Check by multiplying back and adding the remainder.
