2026–2027 Homeschool Laws and Requirements

How to Homeschool in Delaware

Yes, you can homeschool your child in Delaware. You do not need a teaching license, and the state neither prescribes nor approves your curriculum; you choose your materials, your subjects and your schedule. Delaware treats a homeschool as a nonpublic school: you register it with the Department of Education before you withdraw your child, and you send two short reports a year.

How to start homeschooling in Delaware

  1. Open an EdAccess account, register your homeschool in the Department of Education's online Nonpublic School system, enroll your child, and print the acknowledgement letter.
  2. Withdraw your child from the public school with the letter in hand; a school withdraws a child only on seeing it.
  3. Choose your materials. Delaware names no subjects for a single-family homeschool and approves none; Faith Schooling's reading, language arts and mathematics programs give the year a sequence, and you add the rest.
  4. Plan the year. Delaware counts no days or hours; the free Homeschool Rhythm Builder turns your week into a printable plan and an attendance record.
  5. File the two reports in the same system: your enrollment as of the last school day in September, by September 30, and the year's attendance, by July 31.

How Faith Schooling covers Delaware's requirements

Delaware sets no days or hours. A year of 36 weeks with four or five mornings a week is the common shape, and it is yours to set.

Delaware asks for a registration and two reports and leaves the teaching to you. Faith Schooling's programs give the single-family homeschool its year: sequenced reading, language arts and mathematics textbooks for every grade from Kindergarten to Grade 5 with teaching guides, and their dated, finished pages make the July attendance report a count rather than a reconstruction. Science, social studies and health are yours to choose.

Delaware asks for an enrollment count each September and the year's attendance each July, filed online. The dated, finished pages of each program are that record, and a HARVEST report is a placement note for the file.

What Delaware does not require, and you should still do

  • Place your child. Delaware tests no homeschooled child; HARVEST, the free placement check, names the grade and quarter to start in reading and math.
  • Plan the year. The Homeschool Rhythm Builder turns your week into a printable plan and an attendance record, which is the July report written as you go.
  • Keep the acknowledgement letter. It is the one document a school will ask to see, going out and coming back.
