Inside
Six passages, each with its teacher key
Twelve of the thirteen pages are matched pairs: an illustrated reading passage, then the key facing it. The stories are David and Goliath from 1 Samuel 17, Daniel in the lions' den from Daniel 6, Noah from Genesis 6–9, Jonah from Jonah 1–3, Joseph from Genesis 37–50, and Esther from Esther 2–8. Each passage page carries four comprehension questions to be answered in complete sentences, four vocabulary words with definitions, a personal writing prompt, and a memory verse drawn from the same chapter.
Who it suits
Grade 3, and a child ready to be asked why
The reading level sits with a child who decodes comfortably and no longer needs help sounding words out. The third question on every passage is inferential rather than factual: why David was not afraid, why Daniel kept praying, why Esther called for a fast before she acted.
In practice
Read the key before the lesson
Each key carries teaching notes — a before-reading question, a discussion question, an extension activity, and the faith focus of the story — so it is worth reading first, not only for marking. The child reads, answers in complete sentences, and writes the personal response. The key gives sample vocabulary answers and says what to look for in the writing.
Honest limits
Comprehension practice, not reading instruction
Nothing here teaches decoding, and a child still sounding out words will struggle with these passages; Phonics, Decoding, and Early Fluency is where that is taught. Six passages is about six weeks at one a week. The complete unit, all six passages with their teacher keys, is free to download and print.
