The Bible is God’s own Word — our sure foundation, our authority, and our daily bread.

2 Timothy 3:16 · NKJV

Living and powerful

Work through it
Three claims Scripture makes about itself
2 Timothy 3:16, Psalm 119:105, and Hebrews 4:12 are the study references, and each makes a different claim. Read 2 Timothy 3 from verse 14, where Paul is writing to a man who had known the Scriptures from childhood, and read on into verse 17 for what they are said to accomplish. Psalm 119 is long and rewards reading a stanza rather than a line; verse 105 sits in one of its twenty-two sections and verse 11, quoted above, sits in another. Hebrews 4:12 comes at the end of a warning about unbelief, so read from the start of the chapter — the context changes how the two-edged sword reads.
Where it sits
Third of six, and the one the others rest on
This is lesson three of Growing Deeper, after the oneness of God and the name of Jesus and before the church. In one sense it belongs first: every other lesson in both series asks you to check its claims in Scripture, and this is the lesson about why that check is worth anything. The step is to make Scripture daily food and the final authority — read, memorized, obeyed. If you want a way to work at the memorizing, the free Scripture memory cards are one, and a lesson a week with your Bible open beside it is another. All twelve lessons across the two series are free to read here and download as two print-ready booklets.
