Jesus Calls Disciples

This free Sunday School lesson teaches Luke 5, where Peter lets down the net at Jesus' word and takes a great multitude of fishes, and where Jesus says Follow me to Levi. It is written for ages 2 to 12, and children learn who was called, what they left, and what Jesus promised them. Each age group gets six printable activities.

What children learn
Children learn that Jesus said Follow me, that Peter was told thou shalt catch men, which is a figure of speech about reaching people, and that Levi left all, rose up, and followed Him.

Before you teach it
Catching men is a figure of speech about reaching people, not trapping people in a fishing net. Keep Levi's stated name in Luke. Do not prescribe children leaving home, abandoning safe care or their responsibilities. Pictures are visual reminders; species, clothing, exact shapes and small scene details are reconstructions unless the passage states them. Offer pointing, oral answers or a scribe. Supervise all cutting. Read the cited verses before using the activities.
