Faith Schooling vs My Father's World for K–5

My Father's World sells a pre-planned package a year at a time, preschool through Grade 12, built so children of several ages study one Bible, history and science together. Faith Schooling is a K–5 reading and math publisher: one household membership at $39 a month, cancel anytime, with each child placed at his own skill level.

Which one fits: the short answer

My Father's World publishes complete year packages, preschool through Grade 12, arranged so a family can teach several children the same Bible, history, science, art and music at once. Faith Schooling publishes K–5 reading, language arts, a dedicated grammar and writing curriculum, phonics, cursive and mathematics: the parent teaches from a script, each child works at the level he tests into, and one membership covers the household.

The deciding question is not price. It is whether you want one shared subject spine for the whole family, or a mastery-paced foundation in the two subjects that decide whether a child can learn anything else.

What each one is, and who does the teaching

My Father's World describes its own method as "combining the best of Charlotte Mason's ideas, Hebraic classical education, and unit studies with a biblical worldview and global focus" — read-aloud literature, narration, "weekly nature walks," hands-on projects and chronological history. The parent teaches from a Teacher's Manual of "step-by-step, 90-minute daily lessons in a grid lesson plan chart." Their site states its time expectations plainly, which is more than most publishers do: kindergarten "takes only 60-90 minutes daily to cover all core subjects," first grade "only 1 ½ to 2 hours per day." First grade is "a phonics-based reading program that focuses on the Bible," with children reading a Bible Reader by mid-year — learning to read out of Scripture is what many families want and few publishers offer.

Faith Schooling is also parent-taught, with no video teachers, but the scope is narrower and the sequence deeper: 6 full-year reading texts, 210 weekly lesson sets, 300 original decodable readers, 96 phonics workbooks arranged by pattern rather than by grade, and 3,530 pages of teaching guide readable in full before you pay. Mathematics is a complete K–5 student-text sequence. There is no history curriculum and no science curriculum.

What each costs

Read on mfwbooks.com on 4 September 2026 during the 10% package promotion; sale price first, regular list in brackets. Kindergarten, God's Creation from A to Z: $265.17 Essentials [$294.63], or $449.24 Premier [$499.16] with the read-aloud books. First grade, Learning God's Story: $473.09 [$525.66]. Adventures in U.S. History, listed for second grade and usable in third: $442.14 [$491.27]. World Changers, "intended primarily for 3rd graders": $433.95 [$482.17]. Exploring Countries and Cultures, the usual fourth-grade entry: $538.05 [$597.83].

One line matters more than any of those numbers. Kindergarten and first grade include math and language arts; from second grade on they do not. The Adventures in U.S. History and World Changers listings both mark "REQUIRED - Add Math" and "REQUIRED - Add Language Arts," and say the Teacher's Manual "includes details on using our Math and Language Arts recommendations, which are purchased separately." Against that, a package is meant to be taught again: the manual and books stay, and Student Sheets are the per-child repeat, $48.95 for World Changers. In a large family that reuse is real money.

Faith Schooling All Access is $39 a month, cancel anytime, for one household and every K–5 child, with no per-grade or per-child fee. You print the pages, so paper and toner are a household cost we are not going to hide. A great deal is free before you decide: HARVEST, the entire Apostolic Academy including The Hidden Word, the learning games, and complete teaching guides.

A house with several children in it

My Father's World answers the many-children problem by teaching them the same thing. "Each year, the family purchases one INVESTIGATE package and all of their 2nd-8th graders move to the next stage in the cycle together," and its Teacher's Manuals "explain what level of content should be taught to each child." The cycle runs five years, then begins again.

Faith Schooling removes the cost of adding a child instead of merging the lessons. Reading and arithmetic stay individual: a child sits in the book matching the skill HARVEST placed him at, not the one matching his brother. Those two subjects are where being carried at someone else's level does the quietest damage.

Where My Father's World is the better choice

Five real situations. In each of them, theirs is the curriculum we would tell you to buy.

You want one publisher for every subject and every year. Faith Schooling stops at Grade 5 and publishes no history or science curriculum at all. My Father's World runs preschool to Grade 12, so you are not assembling four publishers each August and not changing again when your oldest reaches middle school.

You have children spread across several grades and one teaching day. The Family Learning Cycle is the strongest answer to that problem in Christian homeschooling, and Faith Schooling does not attempt it: a second grader, a fourth grader and a seventh grader share one history, one science and one Bible study each morning, at depths the manual sets for each of them.

You want books to arrive rather than to print. They ship bound books, readers and materials. Faith Schooling hands you PDFs and a printer, which suits some houses and honestly does not suit others — count your toner before you count our price.

You want a literature-rich, hands-on day. Narration, read-alouds, nature notebooks, cooking a country's food, learning its music: that is the shape of their day and not the shape of ours. If your child wilts under a worksheet, believe that about him.

You want the years organized around God's heart for the world. In Exploring Countries and Cultures children "read true stories of missionaries and the Gospel of Matthew to understand God's heart for the world" and pray for the peoples they study. That global focus is the organizing idea of the curriculum, not a line in a catalog.

Why families choose Faith Schooling

Faith Schooling is an independent publisher run by one family in Denmark, Wisconsin, and it puts all of its depth into the six years that decide whether a child reads and calculates well.

One membership covers every K–5 grade and every child in the household at $39 a month, cancel anytime. Reading is a complete six-year sequence, with thousands of printable practice worksheets beneath it, and Building Number Sense is a complete K–5 math student-text sequence. Complete teaching guides can be read before you pay anything, and the entire Apostolic Academy is free.

How to decide this week

Four things to do, in order. None of them costs anything.

Count your children and their grades. If the spread is wide and you want them in one room, read the Family Learning Cycle page on mfwbooks.com first; that may settle it before anything else does.

Decide whether history and science have to come from the same publisher. If they do, Faith Schooling is not that publisher, and knowing it now saves you a season.

Run HARVEST, so you teach the skill your child is on rather than the grade on his birthday.

Read one Faith Schooling teaching guide beside a My Father's World sample, and choose the one you can picture yourself teaching on a hard morning.

Common questions

Does My Father's World include math and language arts?
For kindergarten and first grade, yes — the first-grade package lists Dimensions Math alongside integrated language arts. From second grade on, no. The Adventures in U.S. History and World Changers listings on mfwbooks.com both mark "REQUIRED - Add Math" and "REQUIRED - Add Language Arts," and state that the Teacher's Manual "includes details on using our Math and Language Arts recommendations, which are purchased separately." Checked 4 September 2026.
Can Faith Schooling be used alongside My Father's World?
It is a sensible pairing, because the gap is the shape of the fit. My Father's World carries Bible, history, geography, science, art and music for the whole family together; Faith Schooling supplies the reading and arithmetic their packages ask you to add from second grade on. All Access is $39 a month for every child in the household, cancel anytime.
Which one is better for a child who is behind in reading?
Faith Schooling was built for that case. HARVEST is a free adaptive placement, about twenty minutes in the browser for reading with nothing uploaded, and it names a skill rather than a grade. Foundations to Fluency then teaches by pattern at any age, and a skill counts as mastered at 90% or better across five or more sessions on different days rather than on a calendar.

Does Faith Schooling teach history and science?
No. Faith Schooling publishes reading and language arts, a dedicated grammar and writing curriculum, structured phonics, cursive, a complete K–5 mathematics student-text sequence, and Bible through the free Apostolic Academy, and stops there. Families choose history and science elsewhere. If one publisher for every subject matters more to you than depth in reading and math, My Father's World is the better purchase.
