Inside
Nine guides, each one page
The Family Altar sets out a ten to fifteen minute pattern in four parts: read, talk, pray, sing. How to Study Your Bible gives six steps from prayer through to response. A Plan for Family Prayer teaches the A.C.T.S. pattern with times of day to use it. Then a Family Media Agreement, Leading Someone to Christ built on Acts 2:38, Preparing Your Family for Worship, Raising Children in the Lord, Prayer and Fasting, and Giving God's Way.
Who it suits
A parent starting something new, or a leader handing over one page
Every guide stands alone. A pastor can hand out Leading Someone to Christ without the other eight. A family can work through The Family Altar and never print the rest. Nothing assumes prior training, and nothing requires reading the pages in order.
In practice
One guide a month is enough
Print The Family Altar, follow the four parts after supper this week, and add nothing else until the habit holds. The Family Media Agreement is the one page built to be written on and signed: fill in the daily limit and the screens-off time, then parents and child sign it together.
Honest limits
One page cannot be exhaustive
These describe practice, not doctrine. Prayer and Fasting states plainly that children, expectant mothers, and those with health needs should fast gently or not at all; it is not medical advice. For the teaching behind the practice, the study guides carry it lesson by lesson.
